Frequently asked questions about coaching

How do we get started with coaching?

For individual coaching request a sample session to see if we are a match. After that, we willl set up a coaching contract. The first step in our coaching relationship after that will then be a foundational session of approximately 1,5 hours. This is the time to find out more about where you are, what really matters to you and to establish the coaching relationship. After that, you call me at a pre-set time each week (or what we agree on) and the total focus will be on you and the issue you bring. The last coaching session will be a feedback and evaluation session.

What does a coaching relationship look like, and what are your fees?

Whatever you choose! We will agree on the terms of our coaching relationship after our first session.

Each client processes in their own time and way, and oftentimes most “work” is actually done between the sessions. With my flexible fee structure, I honor that and leave it all up to you to design your perfect coaching package! You choose your ideal amount of monthly coaching time, and split it up the way it best serves you. Almost any combinations are possible as long as they serve you. I don’t require a minimum commitment but recommend to book at least three to six months. Coaching is about committing to really make an important change over time - and therefore designed as a long-term relationship.

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

The best way to find out is to try it – request an individual introductory session, or register for a coaching group! Are you open to new ideas or ways that will facilitate positive change? Are you ready to make a full commitment to yourself and the process? Are you ready, willing and able to take action? If so and on top you like to work with a supportive partner and to try new perspectives, coaching most probably works really well for you!

What’s the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?

Coaching is about reaching a higher level of fulfillment. It is not about emotional healing or relief from psychological pain.

Coaching also concentrates primarily on the present and the future. It doesn’t focus on the past or on the past’s impact on the present, and it doesn’t try to resolve, clarify or understand the client’s past – coaching doesn’t depend on the resolution of the past to move the client forward.

Furthermore, a coach always relates to the client as a partner and not from a position as an expert, authority or healer.

Where do we coach?

All coaching is usually done by telephone. You call me at a preset time. For a coaching group we use a telephone conference center. You receive its access code after your payment.

What’s the difference between coaching and consulting?

A consultant is an expert with specific knowledge of a given subject area or industry. You want him to use his expertise to diagnose, direct or design solutions for you. A coach is an expert in the coaching process. He uses this expertise to raise your capacity to find your own answers and solutions as well as your confidence to live them.

How is coaching different from talking to my friends?

A coach is neutral and non-judgmental. His personal view and own isues remain outside. He doesn’t give advice or his opinion. He is 100% focused on your agenda, needs and progress. A coach uses tools and structures that help you to see clearly and to move towards your goals. He holds a safe space for you to explore. Friends, with the very best intentions, tend to advise and want to solve your issues for you. They may also mix up your situation with their own experience without being aware of it and subconsciously work on their own agenda while assuming to support you.
